“…I pray that your love will keep on growing more and more, together with true knowledge and perfect judgment…” Philippians 1:9 (GNT)
Having established the importance of growing in love, we will be looking at further reasons why it is important that you grow in love. First you need to understand that the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ came through love. The gift of salvation which we have received came to us as a result of the love of God. Our Lord Jesus went through so many terrible things but because He loved us so much, He chose to lay down His life for us. He said “…greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends…” John 15:13 (NKJV). Did you see that? This lets us know that love was the propelling force that brought us salvation. So, if you are going to be a good representative of our Lord Jesus Christ on earth, you must also walk and grow in love.
Now, when we talk about growing in love, it means you have to grow in your patience with people, you have to be slow to anger and not easily offended. You have to be kind to people and not proud. You have to be humble and not ill-mannered. You have to be selfless and not selfish. You have to hate evil and stand for the truth at all times. You have to learn to forgive more and forget. When you display these virtues in your sphere of influence and you grow in it, everyone that comes in contact with you will experience the love of Christ and that alone is enough to bring them to Christ. So, I encourage you to deliberately walk and grow in love.
