“…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” —Romans 10:9 (NKJV)

In many circles today, people think that good works and salvation are the same thing. You will see them living right and doing a lot of charity work because they think that when they do this enough, they will be saved. But the truth remains that no matter the good works and charity they perform, it doesn’t bring them the gift of salvation.

So, despite all the efforts they have put in—which are not bad in themselves—they are still not saved. Why? Because salvation does not come by good works; it comes by believing and accepting the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and inviting Him into your life.

The Bible says, “…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” —Romans 10:9 (NKJV). Did you see that? This lets us know that what brings you salvation is your belief in the finished work of the Master and your acceptance of His work and person. Once that is done, only then can one receive salvation.

Why is this the case? Because only the sacrifice of Jesus can cancel the condemnation that the disobedience of the first man, Adam, brought. Understand this: when Adam disobeyed God and sinned, he died a spiritual death, which was a total separation from God.

This death was passed on to all men, for the Bible says, “…through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned…” —Romans 5:12 (NKJV).

So, everyone born into this world is physically alive but spiritually dead to God. That is why no matter the good works a man does, they count for nothing in the matter of salvation, because those works were done from a place of spiritual death. Men obviously will benefit from the good works, but the soul of the one who did them is still not saved.

Now, are we saying good works are bad? No, that is not the point. The point is that no amount of good works will save a man until he has accepted the Lord and His finished work and confessed Him as Lord.

So, if you are reading this and you have not received Christ and His finished work, you need to do it urgently because this is the only way out of spiritual death. (Please refer to the salvation prayer page, make the confessions, and contact us to let us know what you have done so we can guide you further).

But if you have received salvation already, I encourage you to understand the magnitude of what you have received and work out your salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12).

Confession for the Day

Father, I thank You for bringing this word to me today. I thank You for the gift of salvation, and I receive grace to work out my salvation with fear and trembling in Jesus’ name. Amen!
