We love Him because He first loved us. —1 John 4:19 (NKJV)
Sometime ago, a young lady met me and shared the many challenges she was going through. In the end, she said, “Nobody loves me; even my family members do not love me.” When I inquired further to know why she had reached that conclusion, she explained that it was because of the way she had been treated by those closest to her.
After taking time to listen, I told her that while we cannot be certain about the love of people, I am absolutely certain that God loves her. That love is all she truly needs. She admitted she knew this but still felt a deep longing for the validation of her family. I responded that if you truly believe God loves you, then the opinion of those who do not love you loses its power.
Beloved, where this lady stood is where many believers find themselves today. They seek the validation and affection of men, which is not inherently wrong, but the truth is that human love is imperfect. It often comes with conditions; the day you fail to meet those conditions, their love for you may wax cold. Why depend on such a fragile foundation?
Instead, why not focus on the love of the One who loved you before you were even born? He loved you while you were still a sinner, and to this day, He has never stopped loving you. It is time to truly focus on God’s love for you. Embrace it, be conscious of it, cherish it, and reciprocate it because His love is the only thing that truly matters.
No wonder the Apostle Paul wrote so passionately about this reality. He understood that God’s love is the ultimate security for the believer, providing a level of support that no human relationship can match.
If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? —Romans 8:31-32, 35 (NKJV)
Paul concluded by saying that he was persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Focus on God’s love for you today. It is all you will ever need.
