“…while Elisha was still saying this, the messenger arrived. And the king said, “All this misery is from the Lord! Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?” 2 Kings 6:33 (NLT)
The story in our opening text highlights a time of extreme famine in Samaria, so dire that some resorted to unthinkable actions for survival. When the king learned about it, he was overwhelmed and blamed God for the calamity, saying, “All this misery is from the Lord! Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?” 2 Kings 6:33 (NLT).
Now, something I want to point out is that, the king blamed God for the issues in the land. But all the while they were waiting for God to intervene, God was actually waiting for them to act. When Elisha the man of God discovered that the king was intent on harming him on account of the trouble in the land, he decided to release a word that would turn the famine around. He said “Listen to what the Lord says! By this time tomorrow you will be able to buy in Samaria ten pounds of the best wheat or twenty pounds of barley for one piece of silver.” 2 Kings 7:1 (GNT) and true to the words of the man of God, the Bible says “…The people of Samaria rushed out and looted the Syrian camp. And as the Lord had said, ten pounds of the best wheat or twenty pounds of barley were sold for one piece of silver.” 2 Kings 7:16 (GNT). Did you see that? The moment they took action, God backed their actions up with His power and everything changed.
This teaches us an important principle: sometimes, while we wait for God to act, He is waiting for us to take a step of faith. The situation changed only after a faith-filled action was taken. There are moments to wait and trust, but there are also moments when action is required. When you act in faith, God’s power comes to bear on your actions, turning situations around.
Beloved, it’s time to examine your life. Are you waiting for God to move in a particular situation when He’s waiting for you to take the first step? Whether it’s a decision, a declaration, or an act of obedience, your action can release God’s power and bring transformation. Take faith-filled steps today and watch God move in response.
