“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, to him who knocks it will be opened.” — Matthew 7:7-8 (NKJV)
If I asked you directly, “Who do you go to first for help?” you’d probably answer “God.” But take a moment to reflect—when you needed help last, who did you turn to first? Many of us find it easier to run to people before we turn to God. We’ve been conditioned to think that human help is faster or more reliable, but is that truly the case? The Bible cautions us against relying on man instead of God, saying, “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord; for he shall be like a shrub in the desert and shall not see when good comes…” (Jeremiah 17:5-6, NKJV).
Even if human help seems faster, it doesn’t mean it’s better. Depending on people rather than God only reinforces the habit of trusting in human strength rather than divine guidance. This is a trick of the enemy, nudging us away from placing our faith in God. To change this, we need to train ourselves to go to God first and trust in Him. Discipline yourself to ask for His guidance and listen for His direction before seeking help elsewhere. Often, one instruction or reassurance from God is all it takes to set your heart at ease. Hallelujah!
So, make a conscious decision today to go to God first. Let Him be your first option, not your last.
