“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified” — Isaiah 61:1-3 (NKJV)
In our opening scripture, we see one of the key reasons Jesus Christ came into this world. He came to give us the garment of praise in exchange for the spirit of heaviness. The spirit of heaviness is responsible for sadness, depression, discontentment, despair, and discouragement. It has ruined countless lives and kept many in emotional bondage.
This spirit works subtly, making people blind to the blessings of God in their lives. Instead of acknowledging or appreciating what God has done, they fall into a cycle of dissatisfaction and sorrow. But it doesn’t have to be so for you. Jesus has already paid the price to rid you of this spirit, and now, you have the authority to cast it out of your life.
Any time you feel unusually down, discontent, or isolated, recognize it for what it is: the influence of the spirit of heaviness. Don’t entertain it or assume it’s a harmless feeling. Instead, stand your ground, reject it, and cast it out in the name of Jesus. You have the authority to do so because God has already equipped you for victory. Therefore, resist this spirit and replace its lies with the truth of God’s word and your joy will be restored. Hallelujah!
Today’s Rhema
Give no place to the spirit of heaviness; resist it, and let the garment of praise take its place.
