“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” — Luke 6:38 (NKJV)
Many times, I’ve heard people argue that when you give, you should expect nothing in return. They say that if you’re giving with the hope of receiving, you’ve become a transactional Christian—someone who gives not out of love, but out of self-interest. I understand this school of thought, and I agree that giving should be motivated by love and a desire to bless others, not just by what we hope to gain.
However, it’s also important to acknowledge a fundamental truth: it is impossible to give without receiving something in return. Why? Because giving is a spiritual and universal law that provokes receiving.
Jesus said clearly in our opening text, “Give, and it will be given to you…” These words are explicit. The measure with which you give is the same measure that will come back to you. That means when you give, you automatically position yourself to receive. It’s not manipulation—it’s law. Just like gravity causes anything that goes up to come down, the law of giving ensures that whatever is given will return in some form.
Whether you’re giving something good or bad, pure or impure, the principle remains—it will come back to you. And this law is not limited to Christians; it is universal. Anyone who gives—regardless of belief or background—will receive. That’s how powerful and reliable this principle is.
So every time you give, expect to receive. But let your motivation be love, not greed. Don’t give just to get; give because you love God and because you desire to be a blessing to others. That’s the right approach. And when you combine generosity with genuine love, the results are far greater than anything you could have imagined. You’ll be blessed beyond your wildest dreams.
Today’s Rhema
Don’t give because of what you want to get—give because you love God and want to be a blessing to others. This is the right approach to giving!
Confession for the Day
Father, I thank You for the clarity You have brought to me in this teaching. I receive grace today to give with the right motive, and as I do, the blessings of giving will overflow in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
