Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. (Hebrews 12:1 NKJV)

Recently, I learned something profound from my daughter that I want to share with you. I noticed her school bag growing heavier each day, and she struggled to carry it. At first, I ignored it, but when her difficulty became obvious, I decided to investigate. To my surprise, her bag was filled with unused books. After removing them, the bag became light again. In that moment, I remembered the verse in our opening text.

Sometimes, we cannot reach the next level in life because we carry unnecessary burdens—grudges, hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness—that slow us down. Tragically, we grow so attached to these weights that we fail to recognize how they hinder our progress. We cling to them, stuck in stagnation. But the Bible urges us, Let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. (Hebrews 12:1 NKJV). If we obey this, our lives will improve, and we’ll achieve breakthroughs faster.

So today, I ask you: What are you holding onto that’s blocking your progress? It could be a habit, a mindset, a toxic relationship, or even a negative self-image. Whatever it is, I urge you to lay it aside. You might feel emotionally tied to it, but if you’re serious about advancing, you must let it go for your own good. Remember, progress in life hinges on decisions. If you search your heart today and make the necessary choices, you’ll move from glory to glory. Hallelujah!
