In conclusion, my friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable. Put into practice what you learned and received from me, both from my words and from my actions. And the God who gives us peace will be with you.
—Philippians 4:8–9 (GNT)

Do you know that what you fill your mind with over time determines what your life becomes in the long run? If you consistently fill your mind with fear, you will eventually become a fearful person. If you fill your mind with hateful thoughts, you will grow into someone full of hatred. But when you fill your mind with things that build faith, courage, and boldness, that is the direction your life will take.

This brings an important question to mind: how are you living your life as a believer, and what are you allowing into your mind? You must understand that your mind does not operate independently. It becomes a product of what you continually feed it. If you feed it with garbage, it will produce garbage. This is why it is critical to be intentional and mindful about what you permit into your mind.

In our opening text, Paul the Apostle said, “my friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable.” He gave this counsel because he understood that this is how a person programs himself for a glorious and victorious life. What occupies your mind today will shape your experiences tomorrow.

For this reason, refuse to spend your time filling your mind with things that corrupt, weaken, or defile you. Instead, deliberately focus on things that are good and worthy of praise. When you do this, your life will naturally begin to move in the same direction, because your life follows the direction of your mind. If you focus on what is positive and godly, that will reflect in your experiences. If you dwell on negativity, it will also manifest in your reality. Therefore, do what is necessary and guard your mind carefully.

Prayer

Father, I am grateful for helping me understand this truth. I receive grace and wisdom to make the right investments into my mind, and I declare that as I do this, I am bearing the right fruits, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
