“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” — James 1:17 (NIV)

In our opening text, the Word of God tells us that every good thing comes from God, the Father of lights. This means that whatever we consider evil or bad isn’t from God but from the devil. Poverty and the chaos it brings are not from God. We see this clearly in the story of Job in the Bible. Job was very wealthy, with all he could need in life. But one day, the devil brought an accusation against him before God, claiming that if Job lost everything, he would curse God.

We see this in Job 1:9-11 (NKJV), where the Bible says, “So Satan answered the Lord and said, ‘Does Job fear God for nothing? Have you not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But now, stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!’” The devil was the author of all the evil that befell Job; God had nothing to do with it.

The devil, the mastermind of evil, struck Job with his favorite attack—poverty—which completely disrupted Job’s life. Job lost all he had in a single day, including his children. Seeing this account in the Bible, we know beyond a doubt that poverty is not from God but from the devil. Poverty is a tool the devil uses to attack those whom God loves.

As Christians, we must not allow poverty to creep into our lives. We shouldn’t see poverty as something we need to endure or accept. When you understand that it’s from the devil and not from God, it becomes clear that it’s something to resist and fight against. Jesus died for you, and when He did, He gave you all that He has—including wealth. Hallelujah!

Prosperity is from God, but poverty is from the devil!

Confession for the Day

I declare that I will walk and live in prosperity every day of my life. Poverty has no place in my life; the devil and his evil agenda concerning my finances and future will not succeed because I am a child of God, born with grace and born to always succeed. Amen!
