Express Your Love in Actions Not Just Words

Devotionals

“…my little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. By this, we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.” —1 John 3:18-19. (NKJV)

People say a lot to express their love for their loved ones. You hear them say things like, “I love you from the depths of my heart”, “You mean the world to me”, “My life is nothing without you.” or “I would walk to the moon for you.” Someone even went so far as to say, “I would take a bullet for you.” It is good to express our affection through words, like we’ve seen above, but you see, there is more to love than just words. In fact, perfect love expresses itself not only in words but also in deed. The depth of a man’s love for another can only be measured by the actions and sacrifices he is willing to make for the one he loves. For example, the Bible records that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son to pay the ultimate price for us (John 3:16). From the actions of God, we see that He genuinely loves us, and it was love that propelled Him to send His son to be a sacrifice for us. Now we ought to also learn how to express our love in actions as well.

You can’t claim to love your wife and cheat on her, because perfect love isn’t selfish. You can’t claim to love your husband if you are quarrelsome, because love isn’t troublesome. You can’t claim to love God and not be willing to spend time praying and having fellowship with Him. You can’t claim to love God when you find it difficult to give your tithe or give towards the work of the kingdom. You cannot claim to love your neighbor and not be willing to share basic things with that person. What I’m trying to communicate here is simple. Do not love in word alone, but also in deed. This simply means that words can never be enough to say what actions can say. And it also means that love is a language that is best communicated through action, especially deeds done in truth. So start today by getting involved in the deeds that will communicate love to your neighbor. Praise God!

Today’s Rhema

Let the expression of your love be in words, in actions, and in truth, and you will blossom in all that you do!

Confession for the Day

Thank you, Father, for this wonderful counsel. I choose this day to love not just in words but in action; and as I do this, many are experiencing the love of God through me in the Name of Jesus. Amen!
