Come close to God, and God will come close to you. (James 4:8 NLT)

Over time, I’ve heard believers say things like, “God is far from me. I can’t feel His presence. I can’t hear His voice. He has abandoned me.” But is that really true? The answer is no. God has always been there. He has always been close, trying to get their attention, but they struggle to hear His voice or sense His presence because they aren’t in the right spiritual posture to receive His communication. As simple as it sounds, this is the truth.

Beloved, if you want to hear God’s voice and witness His mighty miracles in your life, there’s a posture you must take. Thankfully, it’s not complicated—it simply requires you to draw near to God. You must understand that whenever we feel God is distant, it’s often because we are the ones who have drifted away. In His infinite mercy, God has always been with us. He isn’t far, as some might think. How do I know this? Because His Word assures us. In Hebrews 13:5-6, the Bible says, Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Did you see that? If God says He is with you, He means it. He isn’t far at all. You are the one who has drifted, and if you choose to draw near, you’ll discover that He has been there all along.

So, I encourage you today: draw near to Him. Interrupt your busy schedule and routines, and choose to spend time with the Lord in prayer. As you do, you’ll begin to experience His presence and hear His voice again. As our opening text clearly says, Come close to God, and God will come close to you. (James 4:8 NLT).
