Command those who are rich in this world’s goods not to be proud, and not to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but in God, who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.
—1 Timothy 6:17 (GNT)

One of the subtle things mammon does to people when they come into wealth, or begin to enjoy a measure of financial rest, is to introduce pride. It causes them, often unconsciously, to shift their confidence from God to the resources they possess. Instead of trusting the One who gives the power to get wealth, they begin to rely on the wealth itself. Sadly, many have fallen from grace because of this misplaced trust.

However, this must not be your story. No matter how wealthy you become, it is imperative that you never place your hope in money but in God. Why? Because money is uncertain by nature. It can fail, lose value, or disappear. There are also critical things money cannot buy or secure—peace of mind, soundness of health, true joy, or eternal life. Only God can provide these things without putting your life in danger.

Paul the Apostle understood this clearly, which is why he instructed Timothy to command those who are rich not to be proud and not to put their hope in wealth, but in God, who generously provides everything for our enjoyment. This makes it clear that God is not against wealth, but He is against misplaced trust. Wealth is meant to be enjoyed, not worshipped.

Therefore, as you walk with God, I encourage you to consciously put your trust in Him and refuse the deception mammon brings. No matter how high you rise financially, always remember the Lord your God, for He is the One who gives you the power to get wealth. When you acknowledge Him as the source of your life and sustenance, He will reward you with things far more valuable than money.

Today’s Rhema

If you put your trust in money, you will surely be disappointed; but if you put your trust in God, you will never regret it.

Confession for the Day

Father, I thank You for reminding me of the importance of putting my trust in You. I choose to keep my hope and faith in You and not in riches. I declare that my confidence remains in You alone, now and always, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
