lies

“…do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him…” Colossians 3:9 (NKJV)

Now, that we have established strong reasons why you shouldn’t tell lies, you might say but sir, we are living under grace and these things don’t not really count. Well, grace in the first place is not a license to tell lies and besides you have to understand something about lying. One of the reasons God does not like it is because it corrupts a man’s personality and destroys his integrity. It also programs a man in such a way that causes him to always tell lies. And this affects his relationship with others, which is the very reason God does not want us to tell lies.

When I was growing up, I was told the story of a young shepherd. Whenever he takes his sheeps to the bush, he will suddenly start screaming that there was a wolf attack and when people come to rescue him, they will discover it was a lie. He kept on doing this and when people came for his rescue, he would tell them he was just joking. So, one day there was really a wolf attack and when he cried out for help, no one listened to him because they thought he had started with his jokes again. Guess what, the wolves came and killed his sheeps and he managed to escape with his own life. Now, why didn’t they listen to him? The answer is straightforward, he had destroyed his integrity through a prolonged period of telling lies. This is exactly why God does not want us to tell lies.

God does not tell lies and He has given us His nature, through Jesus Christ. So He expects us to live conscious of His nature which is at work in us because that’s who we are. Telling lies is like living below our calling in Christ Jesus. It is a low life and we have to consciously stay away from it. Although from time to time, we could make mistakes here and there, but if you are conscious of who you are, it helps you to begin to limit your mistakes. In proverbs 13:5, the Bible says “…a righteous man hates lying…” therefore, run from it because it is the right thing to do in the sight of God and it is the right thing to do to maintain a good relationship with others. God bless you!

Lies corrupts a man’s personality and destroys his integrity!

Confession for the Day

Thank you Heavenly Father for pointing out to me this truth that has been relegated to the background. I decree that as a Christian, I will live conscious of this truth and put lies completely away from my tongue in the name of Jesus. Amen!
