Jesus preaching to a crowd of followers in the desert

If you repay good with evil, you will never get evil out of your house.
—Proverbs 17:13 (GNT)

One of the sad realities in our world today is that many people choose to repay good with evil. Some have had their hearts broken because of this, while others have even lost their lives. Recently, I heard of a young man who was murdered because of the good he did. He introduced a real estate contract to someone he considered a friend. The deal went through successfully, but because this so-called friend wanted to keep all the money, he lured the young man into the bush and killed him. By the mercy of God, this evil was uncovered, and the murderer was apprehended.

Beloved, these are just some of the heartbreaking things happening in our world today. But this should not be the case with us as believers. We are instructed never to repay good with evil. Instead, we must take responsibility for responding to good with good. As our opening scripture says, If you repay good with evil, you will never get evil out of your house. —Proverbs 17:13 (GNT). Did you catch that? We need to be mindful of this truth and choose to do what is right. Anytime someone does something good for us, we must fight the urge to respond with evil. Even if we are unable to repay with good, at the very least, we should not repay with evil. When your response to good is good, you position yourself to receive more glorious things. Praise God!
