Jesus casts out an evil spirit

“…and these signs will follow them that believe; in My name, they will cast out demons…” —Mark 16:17 (NKJV)

The Christian life is not a life of weakness or defeat but of strength and victory. Therefore, it is important to live every day of your life knowing that you are not a victim but a victor. It is important to know who you are in Christ Jesus so that you can live your life accordingly. Now, one of the things that makes you a victor is the fact that you have authority in Christ Jesus. And this authority helps you to live above fear or defeat, but to live like this, you must learn to take advantage of the authority you have received and exercise it when the need calls for it. I remember reading about how a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met with Paul and Silas and began to follow them saying, “…these men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim the way of salvation. She followed them for many days until Paul became annoyed. So he turned and said to the spirit, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her, And he came out that very hour. (Study Acts 16:16-19) The spirit kept on disturbing Paul, but knowing that he had authority in Christ Jesus, he decided to cast the spirit out.

He didn’t bother to negotiate with the spirit or try to condole it, so he cast it out. This is what we should do when faced with situations that are influenced by demons. We are expected to stand our ground and cast the spirit out. Sometimes, I hear people say they were scared when they had a nightmare, and some others say they were scared when they felt a certain presence inside the room, and I am amazed why they are scared. It shouldn’t be that way. You’ve got to understand that, in Christ Jesus, you have authority. So there is no presence that comes to your room that can be greater than the presence of God that is living inside of you in the person of the Holy Ghost. Understand that the presence of God living in you is far greater, so you have nothing to be scared of. All you need to do is open your mouth and cast out that spirit in the name of Jesus, and it will obey because the Bible declares that every knee bows when the name of Jesus is mentioned. (Philippians 2:10-11 NKJV) So be encouraged to do the needful today, refuse to allow the devil to play a fast one on you. Always remember that you are of God and have overcome the world because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4).

Confession for the Day

Thank you, heavenly Father, for the authority you have given to me in Christ Jesus, I declare that as I carry out my daily activities, I exercise my authority regularly, and every power of darkness that tries to stand in the way, is cast out in the name of Jesus. Amen!
