“And the Philistine said, ‘I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.’ When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid…” — 1 Samuel 17:10-11 (NKJV)
The scripture above shows us how the Israelites were intimidated by the sheer size of Goliath. Because of this fear, they forgot the strength of God. Instead of trusting in His power, they measured themselves against Goliath and accepted defeat before the battle even began. Unfortunately, this is the story of many believers today—it shouldn’t be so.
Often, people focus on the size of their challenges, thinking they are too great to overcome. The mountain seems too high, the odds too impossible. But that is not how God wants us to think. Be like Sarah, whom the Bible says, “By faith, even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered Him faithful who had made the promise.” — Hebrews 11:11 (NIV). The odds were clearly against her, yet she did not give in to doubt.
Maybe you find yourself in a tough situation, surrounded by people who seem more successful—those with high positions, great salaries, or thriving businesses. And perhaps this has caused you to feel inadequate, as though you don’t measure up. But here’s the truth: your worth is not determined by someone else’s success. The fact that your neighbor has attained great heights does not mean there is no room for you. Instead of feeling intimidated, see it as proof that God is also working in your life.
If challenges stand before you like Goliath, don’t be discouraged. Be like Sarah—refuse to be intimidated. Focus on God, for He is faithful and able to bring His promises to pass. Amen!
Today’s Rhema
Focus on the strength and ability of God, and look away from the size of your circumstances.
Confession for the Day
I decree that I am not moved by the size of the mountain before me, nor am I intimidated by the successes of those around me. God is my strength, my provision, and my prosperity. Amen!
