Never ask, “Oh, why were things so much better in the old days?” It’s not an intelligent question. —Ecclesiastes 7:10 (GNT)
Over the years, I have seen and heard people compare their present experiences with those of the past. They make it seem like their lives yesterday were better. They whine about the past and wish for today to be like yesterday, but is that how God wants us to live our lives? The answer is no.
You must understand that no matter how beautiful yesterday was, today is better, and tomorrow is better still. You might ask why this is so. The answer is simple: no matter how wonderful the experiences of yesterday were, you cannot do anything about them now. In other words, you cannot improve on yesterday because it is gone forever.
However, you can still do something about today and tomorrow. You can make adjustments and improve the quality of your current and future experiences. Therefore, I encourage you to never compare today to yesterday.
In our opening text, the Bible says, “Never ask, ‘Oh, why were things so much better in the old days?’ It’s not an intelligent question” (Ecclesiastes 7:10, GNT). So instead of wasting your time making comparisons, focus on what adjustments and improvements you can make for a better today and a more glorious tomorrow. You still have the power to influence what happens in your life. No matter how wonderful yesterday was, today and tomorrow can be better; it all depends on what you are willing to do. Hallelujah!
Today’s Rhema
No matter how wonderful yesterday’s experience was, today and tomorrow can be better; it all depends on what you are willing to do and the sacrifices you are willing to make!
Confession for the Day
Father, I am grateful for opening my eyes to this truth and for making my yesterday glorious. However, I refuse to compare it with today. Instead, I choose to take the right actions to make today’s experience even better, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
