“…A man’s spirit sustains him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear?” —Proverbs 18:14 (NKJV)
What is a crushed spirit? You might ask. A crushed spirit is a state of complete discouragement, often to the point where nothing interests you any more. It is a terrible state of being and we must make a conscious decision to fight it with all vehemence. The Bible says, “…your will to live can sustain you when you are sick, but if you lose it, your last hope is gone…” Proverbs 18:14, meaning, if you allow yourself to get to that point where you are crushed in your spirit, you will no longer have the zeal for life and that is where depression sets in, which has led many people down the road of hopelessness.
Beloved, you have to protect yourself from getting to this state in life. You will surely have experiences that might want to shatter your emotions or bring you to a place of total discouragement, but you have to learn to encourage yourself. How do I do this? You might ask. Well, you need to prevent that situation from overwhelming you, and the rest will take care of itself. But sadly, this is where many of God’s people are getting it wrong. When things happen, it shatters them completely, and so it becomes difficult for them to recover, which is not how it is supposed to be. You are encouraged to never come to that place where your spirit is crushed, because when that happens, your will to continue living will be affected. You will lack motivation to even work towards solutions, so you, therefore, need to stop allowing circumstances to get to your spirit. Instead, rise above it so that you will be able to work towards a solution. Praise God!

Confession for the Day
Father, I am grateful for this wonderful truth. I receive grace to guard myself against such situations that will pierce my spirit. I receive grace to be strong and encouraged at all times, and as I do this, solutions will always spring forth in Jesus name. Amen!
