“…other people are like the seeds sown among the thorn bushes. These are the ones who hear the message, but the worries about this life, the love for riches, and all other kinds of desires crowd in and choke the message, and they don’t bear fruit…” Mark 4:18-19 (GNT)
As you continue to hear God’s word in your faith walk, it is important to understand that the word of God works, but there are few things that can choke the word of God in your life and prevent it from working in your life. I know this might sound ridiculous, but trust me this is the truth. Over the years, I have met many people who say “I have heard the word of God preached again and again. I have read the word of God from cover to cover but I have not really seen the proof of it in my life”. Now, the reason they speak like this is because they do not know that somehow they have opened themselves up to things that choke the word of God in their lives and stop it from bearing fruits in their lives.
You might say, so what are the things that chokes God’s word in our lives? Well, it is simple! When we take a close look at our opening text, our Lord Jesus Christ was explaining the meaning of the parable of the sower and He said, “…other people are like the seeds sown among the thorn bushes. These are the ones who hear the message, but the worries about this life, the love for riches, and all other kinds of desires crowd in and choke the message, and they don’t bear fruit…”Mark 4:18-19 (GNT). Did you see that? The word of God cannot bear fruits in your life, if you are worried about the issues of life, or your love for riches is overwhelming or you are too concerned about some frivolous things of this world. When you allow these things in your life, they go into you and make the word of God of no effect in your life. So, you must avoid these things and learn to trust God’s word. Shut your mind from brooding on the wrong things. Instead give yourself wholly to the word of God, let the thoughts, opinions and the commands, given by God’s word become your standard and final authority. Let your strength and hope be drawn from the scriptures and trust me, you will see God’s word, work wonders in your life. Praise God!

When you eliminate worry and unnecessary passion for riches and other cares of this world, the word of God will have free course in you and produce results for you!
Confession for the Day
By the power of the Holy Spirit, I decree today that every source of worry and cares of this world, that chokes the word of God in me, is here by uprooted from my life and as they are uprooted from my life, I God’s word is bearing a hundredfold increase in my life in the name of Jesus. Amen!
