“In order to set us free from this present evil age, Christ gave Himself for our sins, in obedience to the will of our God and Father.” (Galatians 1:4 GNT)
It’s that time of the year again when we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. For some, this season may seem insignificant or simply a holiday break. However, for us as believers, Christmas is far more than just a festive season. It’s a time to reflect on and celebrate what our Lord Jesus Christ accomplished for humanity. One of His greatest acts of love was giving Himself for our sins. In other words, He came to pay the price for our sins so that we could be made whole.
This truth might not resonate with everyone, but it is undeniable: sin is real, and its wages are death (Romans 6:23). Sin entered the world through Adam, the first man, and has since been passed on to all of humanity. The Bible states, “Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned.” (Romans 5:13 GNT).
No matter how much people try to deny or ignore this reality, it doesn’t change the fact that, according to divine justice, all have sinned and must pay the price. And the legal tender for this payment is death—not money. While this may sound harsh, it is the truth as revealed in the Bible. However, there is good news: Jesus Christ came to pay this price for us. He died so that we wouldn’t have to. He gave His life so that we wouldn’t have to pay with ours.
All that’s required of us is to believe in what He has done, and His sacrifice will be accounted to us. Sadly, many still struggle to believe or accept that Jesus paid the price for their sins. But for those of us who believe, His sacrifice has been credited to us. We no longer face death as the penalty for sin because Jesus took our place.
This is why we rejoice and celebrate—our Lord Jesus Christ has given us life through His death. As you celebrate Christmas this season, do so with joy and gratitude, knowing that Jesus has made it possible for you to live and not die.
If you are reading this and you haven’t yet believed in what Jesus has done, it’s not too late. Open your heart to God, ask Him for understanding, and let Him reveal the truth to you. Hallelujah!
