“…call to me when trouble comes; I will save you, and you will praise me…” Psalm 50:15 (GNT)
When trouble hits, one of the things that many people don’t want to do is call on God. Some people think it’s not a smart choice, while others think it’s a waste of time. I remember speaking to someone some years ago about calling on God, and his reply was, Do you think God will answer? And I was amazed at such a reply. On another occasion, a man saw one of the articles I wrote on praying to God, and the next thing he said was, This is where I have a problem with many people today. He asked why he should be praying to God for everything. Then he said, he feels prayer to God is disturbing God. He even went as far as saying, there are more than a million people praying and expecting God to solve their problems, and he doesn’t want to add to that, so he prefers not to pray. Although this man was a complete unbeliever, the truth remains that some believers today are not praying to God because they share a similar opinion with this man.
Beloved, you must understand that praying to God does not disturb God and it is not a waste of time. God Himself said, “Call to me when trouble comes; I will save you, and you will praise me…” Psalm 50:15 (GNT). If He wasn’t going to help, He wouldn’t ask you to call on Him. King Jehoshaphat, proved this when he found himself in trouble. The Bible said, “And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah…”2 Chronicles 20:3 ( NKJV). The question is, did God answer him? Well, the answer is yes. As they fasted and prayed, the Bible recorded the saying, “…then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly. And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s….”2 Chronicles 20:14-15 (NKJV). If King Jehoshaphat could get help from the Lord, it means you too can get help from the Lord. All you need to do is call upon the Lord.
