“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” — Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)
Ass a young believer, I expected a lot from God. I wanted Him to come through for me in every situation, and in His mercy and grace, He did. Over time, I kept asking for more, but wasn’t spending as much time with Him. I loved God, but I wasn’t seeking His heart—I was seeking His hands. At first, it seemed to work, but eventually, the Holy Spirit pointed out that I was treating my walk with God like a business transaction rather than a relationship. Even in business, successful transactions are built on good relationships first.
Beloved, if you want to experience the fullness of God, it’s crucial to develop a genuine relationship with Him. Stop approaching God just because you have needs. Instead, come to Him because you understand who He is, His place in your life, and all He’s done for you. If your motivation is only to get your needs met, you will face disappointment, and you may end up walking away from God when things don’t go as planned.
God wants you to seek Him for who He is, not just for what He can give you. When you focus on building a relationship with Him, everything else will fall into place (Matthew 6:33). Make knowing God your goal and priority. Like the psalmist, let your soul thirst for God and desire to see His power and glory in your life:
“…O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You…” — Psalms 63:1-3 (NKJV)
