“Guard against turning back from the grace of God. Let no one become like a bitter plant that grows up and causes many troubles with its poison.”Hebrews 12:15 (GNT)

Do you want to enjoy true peace in your life? Do you desire peaceful relationships and harmony with others? If yes, then you must be vigilant—beware of bitterness. It’s subtle, but once it creeps into your heart, it robs you of peace. Often, the sad part is that the person you’re bitter toward may not even be aware of your feelings. And in many cases, the reason behind the bitterness is not even significant in the grand scheme of things.

Bitterness is like a cankerworm—it eats away at you from the inside. Over time, it reshapes your mindset and gives you a skewed perspective that contradicts God’s Word. It’s a tactic the enemy uses to silently destroy believers. He knows he can’t stop you directly, so he tries to turn you against yourself. When you give in to bitterness, it poisons your soul, ruins your relationships, and pulls you away from God’s grace.

To protect yourself, you must learn to recognize bitterness early—and uproot it before it grows. When you find yourself slipping into that state, pull yourself out immediately. Don’t let your heart fester. Bitterness isolates you, and in the end, you alone will bear the consequences. The Bible puts it clearly: “Your joy is your own; your bitterness is your own. No one can share them with you.”Proverbs 14:10 (GNT)

So choose joy instead. If you’ve been hurt, forgive and move on. Let go of the offense. Bitterness may seem justified, but it never brings healing—only pain. The Word says, “Get rid of all bitterness, passion, and anger. No more shouting or insults, no more hateful feelings of any sort. Instead, be kind and tender-hearted to one another, and forgive one another, as God has forgiven you through Christ.”Ephesians 4:31-32 (GNT)

Make a conscious decision to walk in love, kindness, and forgiveness. That’s the path to lasting peace and true joy. Hallelujah!
