“…pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else…” Galatians 6:4 (NLT)
Someone once said to me, “I don’t know what to do with my life anymore”. I feel like I’m living a double life. Outside with my peers I am different, but at home I am someone else. I don’t know who I am anymore.” I think this predicament can happen to any Christian, especially Christians who try to measure up to their peers, or want to reach a certain level because their friends have reached there too. There is nothing as tempting as the life of a successful young man. Whether it’s a musician or an actor, a scientist or an astronaut, a pastor or a teacher, a businessman or a bank manager, human beings always have the tendency to desire what another man has, especially when the person they admire is very successful. Do not get me wrong, it’s good to be inspired by the success of others and to desire to be as successful as they are. But it would be a mistake to plan our lives according to the success of another, and it would be foolish to evaluate our success in comparison to another’s success.
We all have five fingers on every hand, but none of the fingers are equal, and that is why we should never rate our lives based on the lives of other people. Otherwise that would mean we have borrowed their lives and their destiny. And most times, in the bid to be like other people and not end up the way they end up, people tend to lose and think they have not reached the height they are supposed to. This is why you hear people say things like, “I know where I’m supposed to be now” or “I know what my mates are doing out there.” Don’t beat yourself up because of the successes of another, be yourself and become whom God has destined you to be. Set a target for yourself not because of what others are doing or at the speed others are doing their things, but because you have a dream you want to fulfill. Always remember that everything about you is just unique and there could never be another man just like you. So be you and keep pursuing God’s plan for your life. Don’t push it or get carried away by what others are doing. Stay focused on God’s dream and plan for your life. It will bless you!
Today’s Rhema
Don’t try to be someone else, be yourself!
Confession for the Day
Dear Heavenly father, I adore you for your greatness and might. I thank you for making me unique, I acknowledge the fact that I am the only me you ever created, and this makes me expensive. I therefore would not compare myself to anyone else because there is nothing to compare. I choose to be me and to remain as me in the name of Jesus. Amen!
