“…I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me….” Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)
In my years as a pastor, leading God’s people, I’ve encountered many kinds of people. Today, I want to discuss those who prefer to always receive but never give. They love free things and dislike spending money, even when they have it. They expect others to cover their expenses and never take responsibility for their own. They appreciate help but never consider helping others.
Why is this? They’ve cultivated a mindset that contradicts God’s word. Scripture teaches us God desires cheerful and generous givers, for that’s where blessings lie.
It’s okay to occasionally need help. No one is above needing a hand. But it shouldn’t become an expectation. We should take responsibility for our own costs, not wait for others to step in. Throughout the Bible, promises are made to givers, not takers. While receiving help is acceptable at times, don’t grow accustomed to it. Move beyond being a recipient and strive to be a giver, for blessings come with it.
In church, don’t get comfortable with a select few handling the giving. In financial matters among friends or family, don’t leave it to others. Participate and join those who give. The Bible tells us God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7) and that it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). These simple words hold the key to developing a Christian’s character and attitude regarding finances. Therefore, follow these principles and become a giver. Even when things are free, take initiative and contribute to making them free. Praise God!
Today’s Rhema
The promises of God towards giving are for those who give and not those who receive!
Confession for the Day
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, therefore, I have more than enough to participate in any form of giving and I refuse to leave out the giving for others to do. I will give and give always because my sufficiency is of God in the name of Jesus. Amen!
