“…Slave, in reverent fear of God, submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God…” 1 Peter 2:18-19(NIV).

Our opening text is quite an amazing one. Who would know that the word of God expects us to submit ourselves to our masters especially those who are harsh? I think God intends to speak to some people right now, who may just be thinking that their boss must be kind to them, for them to render services. Well, if you are like that, or maybe thinking that you want to quit your job because of the way your boss is acting, I have got news for you. “Don’t quit, listen to what the word of God has to say.” It’s true you may have names for your boss because he or she doesn’t lift a finger and yet gives you impossible targets to achieve.

It is true that your boss may complain too much or shout when you don’t get your job done. It is true that your boss threatens to fire you at the drop of a hat. It is true you don’t get an opportunity to speak or defend yourself most of the time. It is true that your boss is younger than you, and yet he doesn’t give you the respect you deserve. It is true that you are going through a whole lot of other things but the greater truth is that these many reasons are not enough reasons to quit your job. You may have said the pay is not good and so I must quit my job. Well, don’t quit your job like that. You must reason it out properly and be patient. When you do this, it gives you the opportunity to look at the whole situation from a brighter side and because you chose to be patient and submissive you will be the one to enjoy it at the end of the day. So be submissive in your working place, as much as you can.
