“So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God.” — Luke 12:21 (NKJV)
Jesus gave a parable of a certain rich man whose ground yielded plentifully. The man thought within himself, “What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?” So he said, “I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.’” But God said to him, “Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?” Jesus concluded, “So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God.” — Luke 12:16-21 (NKJV).
This man became so rich that he didn’t know what else to do with his riches. He didn’t think about doing something for God in appreciation for what God had done for him. He didn’t consider reaching out to the poor or extending his blessings to people who needed it. All he thought about was himself. So, God demanded his life that very night.
Now, Jesus says this is the fate of anyone who lays up treasure for themselves but is not rich towards God. You’ve got to make up your mind to be rich towards God. Remember, He created you and owns everything you have. His blessings upon your life are not just for you but for others as well. His blessings should reflect in the spreading of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, in putting smiles on the faces of many, and in the house of God.
You cannot be blessed while your church lacks rent or the comfort required to serve God comfortably. You cannot be blessed while many are hungry around you. It’s something you must consider. Don’t become so attached to money that you cannot let it go. That attachment will hold you back in so many ways. Therefore, prove your love for God today. Use what He has blessed you with to increase righteousness and bring glory to His name. Hallelujah!
