“…and there was a widow in that same town who kept coming to him and pleading for her rights, saying, ‘Help me against my opponent!’ For a long time the judge refused to act, but at last he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect people, yet because of all the trouble this widow is giving me, I will see to it that she gets her rights. If I don’t, she will keep on coming and finally wear me out!’”
— Luke 18:3-5 (GNT)
To achieve your dreams and goals this year, you must cultivate the twin virtues of persistence and consistency. These two qualities are critical because one of the major reasons people fail to accomplish their goals is not that they lack ability, but because they give up midway. Many know how to start, but they falter when it comes to staying the course. The missing link is often the inability to remain consistent and persistent.
The parable in our opening text illustrates this beautifully. The widow’s goal was simple: she sought justice. Despite the judge’s reluctance, she kept coming, unwavering in her resolve. Her persistence eventually wore the judge down, compelling him to act. This parable shows us that challenges and resistance will often test your resolve. If you’re not persistent, you may abandon your dreams at the first sign of difficulty.
Beloved, life’s obstacles often require us to push harder and stay consistent. Like the widow, you must keep at your goals, refusing to back down until you see results. When you adopt this mindset, you’ll break through barriers and accomplish much. Make up your mind today to pursue your goals with relentless focus and unwavering determination. Be consistent in your efforts and persistent in overcoming challenges, and you will surely succeed. Hallelujah!
