Be Like a Child When You Pray

“Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” – Mark 10:15 (NKJV)

Children are a wonderful bunch, and there’s so much to learn from them—especially when it comes to the way they ask for things. Every time a child makes a request, you’ll notice desire, faith, persistence, and importunity at work. They will keep pressing until they get what they want.

I remember some time ago, my son and daughter were asking me for a particular toy. They kept on asking, and each time I told them “No,” they would agree and walk away—but only for a while. Within minutes, they were back, asking again. Their resilience sometimes wore me out, and eventually, I would give in. At times, they even came back to argue their case, fully convinced that they’d get what they were asking for.

Beloved, this is exactly how God wants us to be in prayer. He wants to see faith, patience, and persistence when we come before Him. He wants us to pray with conviction and resilience, like children who are confident their Father will respond. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Many believers today give up too soon. If their prayers aren’t answered within days, they grow discouraged, get upset with God, or worse—start looking elsewhere for solutions.

But if you truly want to see results in your prayer life, you must adopt the attitude of a child. Keep going. Keep asking. Keep presenting your case before God. Learn to prevail with God, because if you don’t, you won’t prevail with men. And if you allow unanswered prayers to pile up, they can become a source of frustration and bitterness.

So I encourage you today—be like a child when you pray. Be tenacious. Be consistent. Be bold. Remember what the Bible says: “The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have [with feelings, affections, and a constitution like ours]; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months…” – James 5:16–17 (AMPC). Hallelujah!

Today’s Rhema

If you do not prevail with God, you can’t prevail with men!

Confession for the Day

Thank You, my Lord and my God, for opening my eyes to this truth. I choose this day to change my approach to prayer. I will tarry in the place of prayer until I receive the answers I seek. As I do this, I walk in the blessings that come through persistent prayer, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
