“So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, ‘Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.’” — Genesis 19:17 (NKJV)

Beloved, it’s crucial to understand that dwelling on the past is a dangerous habit because, in the long run, it will not benefit you. Have you ever wondered why the side mirrors of a car are small or why the rear windshield is smaller than the one in the front? This design teaches us something valuable: the past (what’s behind you) matters far less than the future (what’s ahead of you). The future should always be your focus.

The thoughts of your past that weigh you down are distractions. God’s plans for your life are now and in the future, not in the past. A person who clings to the past cannot fully grasp God’s promises because His promises are waiting in your future. Whether you are mourning or healing from a broken heart, God’s comfort and restoration are available now, not in yesterday’s pain.

Until you embrace your future, you will not lay hold of the blessings and promises God has in store. When the angel delivered Lot and his family from Sodom, the command was clear: “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you…” (Genesis 19:17 NKJV). This teaches us that destruction lay behind them, while safety and deliverance awaited in the future. To reach your “mountain” — your place of safety and fulfillment — you must look forward, not back.

So, begin today by letting go of past memories and regrets, and press toward the future. Apostle Paul shared the same mindset when he said, “…I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead…” — Philippians 3:13 (NKJV). Let that same determination be in you. Hallelujah!

Today’s Rhema

God’s plans for you in life are now and in the future, not in the past!

Confession for the Day

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the victories of yesterday, and I praise You for the blessings of today. My life will no longer be controlled by the past but by the future, for I know that’s where my safety and progress lie. I am going all out for it in the name of Jesus. Amen!
