For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. — John 3:16 (NKJV)
After meditating on our opening scripture, I realized that even though man had offended God, He was still concerned about our salvation. He thought about our redemption so deeply that He decided to send His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for us. God knew all of humanity was heading for doom and had no eternal security, so He developed a plan. That plan was Jesus, who came into the world, humbled Himself, and chose to take our place by offering His life for ours.
He did this because He had our salvation in mind. He was truly concerned about us, and the only way to show how much He loved us was to die for us. Through His death, we receive eternal life. Now that this life has been given to us because someone cared, we must ask ourselves an important question: how many people will receive this life because you care? How many people are going to receive salvation because of you? I know this thought might have never crossed some people’s minds, but it is vital to stay aware of this truth.
From time to time, we should ask ourselves this question. If we don’t, we might live our lives caring only about ourselves and our families, forgetting that many people need salvation and that their deliverance is often tied to us. Beloved, it is important to understand that as Christians, we have the responsibility of spreading the good news of salvation to the people in our world. We have been entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation to bring many back to God (2 Corinthians 5:17-19), which is why we must have a heart for the salvation of others.
Think about the condemnation that already exists in the lives of those who are not in Christ. Let that reality motivate you to do your part in saving people from a dreadful eternity. When this becomes your motivation, living a fulfilled life becomes your daily experience. I encourage you to not only live for yourself but to help others escape the horrible damnation that awaits so many. You can do this by preaching the good news of Jesus’ finished work on the cross, or by inviting them to meetings where they can encounter Him. Praise God!
