“…Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. ‘God forbid it, Lord!’ he said. ‘That must never happen to you!’ Jesus turned around and said to Peter, ‘Get away from me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my way, because these thoughts of yours don’t come from God, but from human nature.’” (Matthew 16:22-23 GNT)

Having established the need to be careful with the voices that speak to you, someone might ask, “How do I differentiate between the voice of God and the voice of the enemy?” It’s simple! The difference lies in the scriptures. Why? Because the scriptures communicate the voice and opinions of God. If you don’t know God’s voice and views as revealed in His Word, you won’t recognize when a contrary opinion comes your way.

Over the years, many people have fallen for the wrong voice because they couldn’t discern whether the opinion communicated to them was from God.

For example, some months ago, I heard about a young lady who committed suicide because someone on the internet told her she was good for nothing and would never amount to anything. She believed it and decided to end her life. If she had been familiar with what the scripture says, she would have recognized that the voice speaking to her through the internet was from the devil, not God.

God speaks highly of us, but the devil constantly tries to tear us down. Therefore, the simplest way to distinguish the voice of God from any other voice is to know what God has said about you in His Word. If the voice you hear says otherwise, then it is not of God and should not be listened to.

For instance, if you hear a voice telling you to stop going to church and stay at home, whether in your mind, ears, or through someone, you should know that this is not God’s voice because His Word says otherwise.

So, I encourage you to take God’s Word seriously and understand what it says about you. When you are equipped with the knowledge of God’s Word, it will help you discern when a negative voice is speaking to you. Hallelujah!

Confession for the Day

Thank you, Father, for shining your light on my understanding. I choose this day to study the scriptures often, and as I do, I am equipped with the knowledge of your Word, which helps me discern between the right voice and the wrong one. Hallelujah!
