“Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. ‘God forbid it, Lord!’ he said. ‘That must never happen to you!’ Jesus turned around and said to Peter, ‘Get away from me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my way, because these thoughts of yours don’t come from God, but from human nature.’” (Matthew 16:22-23 GNT)
If you want to walk in the promises of God and become the person He has ordained you to be, you must be careful of strange voices. The devil uses them to turn people away from God and lead them down the wrong path. He employs these voices to demotivate individuals, render them unproductive, and offer counsel that leads to decisions and choices misaligned with God’s plan.
Over the years, many of God’s people have fallen prey to this deception. They’ve made poor decisions that turned their lives upside down. An example is the case of King David. The Bible records, “Satan wanted to bring trouble on the people of Israel, so he made David decide to take a census…” (1 Chronicles 21:1 GNT). How? By a strange voice. When David carried out the census, “…God was displeased with what had been done, so He punished Israel. David said to God, ‘I have committed a terrible sin in doing this! Please forgive me. I have acted foolishly.’” (1 Chronicles 21:7-8 GNT).
David knew he shouldn’t have counted the people of Israel, yet he succumbed, bringing guilt and a devastating outcome upon the nation.
Another example is the story of Eve and the serpent in the garden. Satan used the serpent to persuade Eve to eat the fruit God had forbidden them to eat, leading to their fall from grace (Genesis 3:1-24).
The Bible contains numerous instances where the devil used such voices to cause chaos. In our opening text, the devil attempted to use Peter to speak to our Lord Jesus Christ. But Jesus, discerning who was truly speaking, rebuked Satan.
Beloved, you too must become discerning, learning to identify when the devil is speaking to you. Judge every voice you hear against God’s Word, and be vigilant to avoid falling victim to this deception. Hallelujah!
Today’s Rhema
Discern the voices you are hearing and judge them by the scriptures so that you do not become a victim of strange voices!
Confession for the Day
Father, I am grateful for opening my eyes to this truth. I choose this day to pay closer attention to the voices I am hearing, and I rebuke every wrong voice speaking to me, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
