Calm woman with carton boxes in living room

“…encourage the younger men to be sensible in every way. Offer yourself as a role model of good actions. Show integrity, seriousness, and a sound message that is above criticism…” —Titus 2:6-8 (CEB)

Recently, I read a touching story that moved me greatly. A young woman was captured and sold into slavery. She was there for so many years, and on this fateful day, a man saw the slave traders traveling and approached them. So he took note of the woman when he came close and decided to buy her. She was naturally furious, abusive, and hostile toward the man. But the young man proceeded to pay for her and took her away to another place, where he unlocked her chains. Immediately after her hands were free, in her anger, she slapped him and spat at him, thinking he was another slave trader. The young man was surprised at her outburst, but proceeded to hand her the keys and said “You are free. The reason I bought you was to give you your freedom.” Then he walked away, leaving the lady dumbfounded.

The man was gone before she could seek forgiveness or thank him. All she got at the end of the day was her freedom, but maybe she could have gotten more if she had good character. Many Christians are like this young lady today. They are abusive, impatient, arrogant, and full of pride. And through that bad character, they have lost many opportunities and closed doors in their lives. They have ruined so many relationships and stepped on toes because they don’t have good character.

Amazingly, some of them begin to wonder why things are not working out in their lives, but they do not know that they are the architects of their own problems. Beloved, this shouldn’t be your case. You must understand that as a child of God, there is a certain character that God wants you to have, and that is a graceful character. There are behaviors that drive people far from you, and there are characters that bring people to you. You must choose to have a good character, or else you stand the chance of losing lots of opportunities in life. So as you journey in your walk with God, let this be your priority. Go for personal development and ask God to show you areas where you need to work, and He will gladly show it to you. However, when He reveals the area you need to work on, you should be willing to do it and trust me, you will begin to attract new kinds of relationships and opportunities. Remember, the goal is to be able to reflect Christ through our character. Hallelujah!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for this eye-opening article, I receive the grace to develop the right behaviour and character and I declare that against all odds, my character will not be polluted or corrupted for any reason in the anime of Jesus. Amen!
