Father talking to his son

Watch out for those who do evil things, those dogs, those who insist on cutting the body.
—Philippians 3:2 (GNT)

As believers who have received Jesus into our lives, we are not permitted to have just anybody as close friends. We are not meant to mingle carelessly with people of questionable character, because such associations can corrupt us in ways we may not immediately recognize. Many people believe that who they keep company with does not matter, especially if they think they can change others. But this is a dangerous assumption.

The truth is simple: if you surround yourself with five people who consistently carry a negative mindset and perspective, it will not be long before you become the sixth. Influence works quietly and persistently. This is why wisdom sometimes requires distance. The safest approach is not to test your strength, but to guard your heart by staying away from harmful influence.

When Paul the Apostle admonished the believers in Corinth, he warned them clearly:

Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” —I Corinthians 15:33 (NKJV)

He followed this with a firm instruction:

Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. —I Corinthians 15:34 (NKJV)

Paul understood the danger that ungodly associations pose to spiritual growth. That same danger still exists today.

As you walk with God in your Christian journey, be intentional about those you keep as friends. Deliberately avoid people who practice evil or engage in businesses and activities that thrive on corruption. Scripture does not encourage passive tolerance of such influences; it calls for discernment and decisive action.

Again, the Bible warns us plainly:

Watch out for those who do evil things, those dogs, those who insist on cutting the body.
—Philippians 3:2 (GNT)

The book of Proverbs reinforces this instruction with strong clarity:

Always remember what you have learned. Your education is your life—guard it well. Do not go where evil people go. Do not follow the example of the wicked. Don’t do it! Keep away from evil! Refuse it and go on your way. Wicked people cannot sleep unless they have done something wrong. They lie awake unless they have hurt someone. Wickedness and violence are like food and drink to them. The road the righteous travel is like the sunrise, getting brighter and brighter until daylight has come. The road of the wicked, however, is dark as night. They fall, but cannot see what they have stumbled over. My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen to my words.
—Proverbs 4:13–20 (GNT)

Today’s Rhema

If you want to keep your sanity and maintain the right attitude, avoid people who do evil so that you do not become influenced.

Confession for the Day

Father, I thank You for reminding me of the need to be discerning and self-aware. I receive grace to recognize those who do evil, and I receive wisdom to act rightly around them. I declare that I will not be negatively influenced, and I walk in wisdom, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
