“…take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees…” Matthew 16:6 (NKJV)

As a believer in Christ Jesus who wants to progress in your walk with God, one of the things you must do is to avoid people who have corrupting influences against what you believe. If you don’t do this, you might end up in trouble or following a path that God did not ordain for you. There are too many out there, whose only job is to pollute you and dis-organize your belief system. They come with information that is meant to throw you off balance. They are analytical and critical of the clear teachings on the scriptures and if you are not on guard, they could make you slip. Therefore, it is important that you avoid all such influences. This was something that Jesus Christ noticed in His day and He specifically warned His disciples to avoid the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees (Matthew 16:6). These were people who claimed to know God so well but couldn’t see God in all that Jesus Christ came to do. They couldn’t perceive that Jesus Christ was actually sent by God.

They criticized and even tested Jesus demanding that He show them a sign from heaven (Matthew 16:6) all because they wanted to discredit Him. But Jesus knew their kind of personality and He warned His disciples against such characters. In the same way, you have to be careful about people like this. They are not only outside the church but inside as well and they are willing to discredit everything that the church does.

Apart from this, you also have to be careful about the kind of books or content that you consume, because if you don’t, it will corrupt and pollute your belief system and get you into trouble in the long run. The Bible says “…do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits. Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God…’” (1 Cor. 15:33-34). So be smart and run from such people, for they have zeal for God but not according to knowledge. (Romans 10:2) Hallelujah!
