“…I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken…” Matthew 12:36 (NKJV)

One cause of problems for many of God’s people is in the way they talk. Some people talk carelessly and when they do this, they don’t realize who they are talking about or what they are talking about. For them, when they open their mouth, they feel it is okay to just say anything. However, when you study the Bible very carefully, you will see that we are clearly warned of the dangers of careless speech. For example, the Bible says “…whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles…” Proverbs 21:23 (NKJV). In another place, the Bible says, “if you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless…” James 1:26. Did you see that?

Again, in the book of Psalm 34:12-13, the Bible says “who is the man who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit…” From this, you see that if you truly want to see good days, you cannot afford to be careless with your words. So, I encourage you today to avoid careless talk. Avoid speaking ill about people. Take your mouth off controversial talk. Refuse to contribute to discussions that speak against churches, pastors and even government officials. Instead, channel your words towards creating the life you want to see. Remember, the Bible says “…death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits…” Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV). So, understand that there is power in your tongue and if you can avoid careless talk, you will save yourself from many troubles. Hallelujah!

Today’s Rhema

If you can avoid careless talk, you will save yourself from many troubles!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for this timely message. I choose today to avoid idle talk. I choose to speak life and not death. I choose to create the future I want to see and not destroy other people’s lives. I choose to put my mouth to good use. And as I do that, I am experiencing a mighty turn around in the name of Jesus. Amen!
