Hands together in praying to God along with the holy bible book

“…be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth…” (2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV)

Years ago, when I began studying God’s word as a new believer, I noticed that I rarely understood what I was reading. No matter how much effort I put in, my Bible study moments often felt flat and unproductive. This lack of understanding discouraged me, and I began to dread Bible study.

One day, as I prepared to study, I decided to offer a short prayer, asking the Lord to help me understand His word. To my amazement, it worked! My mind was opened, and for the first time, I received deep insight into the scriptures. That experience completely transformed how I approached Bible study.

Today, many believers face similar struggles. They read the Bible but fail to grasp its meaning, leaving them discouraged and disinterested. If this sounds familiar, know that it doesn’t have to be this way. Whether you’re struggling or not, I’ve discovered a simple yet profound secret: pray before you study. You might wonder, Why is this necessary?

Let me explain. The Bible isn’t like a newspaper or any other informational material. It’s a spiritual book designed to build your life, reveal your purpose, and grant you an inheritance among the saints (Acts 20:32). Its transformative power can disconnect you from the manipulations of darkness and equip you to live victoriously. But to unlock its treasures, you need in-depth understanding—and there are spiritual forces that actively work to block this.

These forces aim to cloud your mind, preventing you from comprehending the scriptures. If you’re unaware of their activities, your passion for Bible study may dwindle. That’s why praying for understanding is so crucial. When you ask the Lord to enlighten your mind before you study, you invite the Holy Spirit to illuminate the scriptures, making your study time fruitful and enjoyable. Hallelujah!
