He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul! Why do you persecute me?” —Acts 9:4 (GNT)

What are your priorities in life? Are they in line with God’s purpose for your life? Are the things you sacrifice for aligned with the path God has ordained for you? These are not comfortable questions, but you must ask them to find the truth.

Today, many people pursue things that are not in line with God’s plan for them. Their sacrifices only satisfy their own desires, not God’s. Their priorities are the complete opposite of what God wants for their lives, but is this how He intends for us to live? The answer is no.

If you truly want to please God and live a fulfilled life, you must perform a priority check. This is where it all begins. You must know God’s priorities for you and set your own accordingly.

Consider the story of Saul of Tarsus. He was a man with a passion to fight for God, so he dedicated himself to persecuting Christians. The Bible says, “But Saul tried to destroy the church; going from house to house, he dragged out the believers, both men and women, and threw them into jail.” (Acts 8:3, GNT). This was his priority, and he felt he was doing the right thing.

He even went as far as getting official permission to do more. The Bible says, In the meantime Saul kept up his violent threats of murder against the followers of the Lord. He went to the High Priest 2and asked for letters of introduction to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he should find there any followers of the Way of the Lord, he would be able to arrest them, both men and women, and bring them back to Jerusalem. (Acts 9:1-2, GNT). All this time, he thought he was right, until the Lord Jesus appeared and corrected him. Only after that encounter did he realize his priorities and pursuits were wrong.

Beloved, do not wait for a dramatic encounter to determine if your priorities are right. Sit down, take stock of what you have been doing, and study the Bible to see if your lifestyle aligns with the scriptures. Ask the Lord questions in prayer, and He will guide you. The best thing that can happen to you is to be in sync with God’s plan, which happens only when His priorities become yours. Hallelujah!
