hands, soil, plant

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38 NKJV)

Years ago, I came across a parable that our Lord Jesus Christ shared in Luke 12:16-21, and it made me ask myself a question I had never considered before. The parable says: “…The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:16-21 NKJV) Did you see that?

When I encountered this story, I realized that my hands were not as open to God as they ought to be. I recognized I was often more generous to myself than to my Maker, and I began to make amends. To this date, I have not stopped, because generosity is a lifetime project. Beloved, are your hands truly open to God as they should be? Are you rich towards God? I know these questions may sound challenging, but take time to ponder them.

Today, various teachings suggest that because Christ has died for you and accomplished everything, you don’t have to do anything further. However, the truth remains that the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ was primarily to bring us into a relationship with God, and relationships, by nature, are not one-sided. They involve collaboration.

So, now that you are in a relationship with God, you don’t leave all the responsibility to Him. He has His role to play concerning you and your affairs, and you, in turn, have a role to play towards God and His work on earth. Interestingly, the work God is doing on earth is for humanity and can largely only be done by humans, because this is humanity’s sphere of influence. This is where you come in. This work requires finances to be carried out, but these finances are often made available by God through people whose hands are open to Him.

Unfortunately, the world today is filled with people whom God has genuinely blessed, much like that rich man in the parable, but they do not remember God or His work on earth. Instead, they prioritize many other things above God and His purposes. However, as a believer, God does not want you to be like that. He desires your hands to be open to Him, and this, ultimately, is for your own good. Because when you open your hands to God, He often opens the hands of others to you, for it is written: Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38 NKJV). So, I admonish you today to take your relationship with God to another level by becoming more generous towards Him. Praise God!

Today’s Rhema

God has His role to play towards you and your affairs, and you have a role to play towards God and His work on earth!

Confession for the day

Thank you, Father, for this wonderful truth. I choose today to continually open my hands towards You, and as I do, I am reaping the fruits of generosity, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
