Old man sitting on a bench

But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31, NKJV)

Why do we have to wait? Why can’t we just do things when we’re ready? it may be nice to just do things when and how you want, if we were the ones who created ourselves. Unfortunately, this is where many people miss it. They want to do things their own way and call it liberty. But the truth remains that even though God has given you free will, it wasn’t given to you to make choices and decisions that exalt yourself. It was given to you to choose God’s will for your life, and God’s will is life. Paul the Apostle said something remarkable that I’d like to point out: “…all things are legitimate [permissible—and we are free to do anything we please], but not all things are helpful (expedient, profitable, and wholesome). All things are legitimate, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]…” (1 Corinthians 10:23, AMPC). Did you see that?

Therefore, it’s important that you wait on the One who created and formed you. He created you for a purpose. The reason you ought to wait on Him is so that His purposes for your life can unfold as planned. However, if you choose to get ahead of God, the experience could leave a very bad taste in your mouth. So, be diligent enough to wait. When you do, you’re the one who will reap the blessings of waiting.

Remember, the Bible says, “…the Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly For the salvation of the Lord…” (Lamentations 3:25-26, NKJV). The Amplified Classic Version puts it even better: “…the Lord is good to those who wait hopefully and expectantly for Him, to those who seek Him [inquire of and for Him and require Him by right of necessity and on the authority of God’s word]. It is good that one should hope in and wait quietly for the salvation (the safety and ease) of the Lord…” (Lamentations 3:25-26, AMPC). Hallelujah!

Today’s Rhema

We didn’t create or own ourselves; therefore, we can’t do things the way we want and anytime we want. We must wait on our Maker!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for opening my eyes to the importance of waiting on you. I receive grace and wisdom to not only wait but to follow the process. As I do this, I am walking in the blessings of waiting on you in Jesus’ name. Amen!
