“…then He said to another, “follow Me” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father”. Jesus said, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God…” Luke 9:59-60 (NKJV)

Our opening text gives us a vivid narration of a story we ought to learn from. It talks about a man whom our Lord Jesus Christ said, follow me and he said, let me go and bury my father first. He wasn’t abreast with what it truly takes to follow Jesus. He felt he could put it off and do what was in his heart first. So he told the Lord to allow him to go and bury his father first. But Jesus made him understand that his call cannot wait. Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God…” Luke 9:59-60 (NKJV) Did you see that? It was such a simple but yet profound statement that is worthy of note. Jesus made it clear that what is more important was for him to go and preach the gospel. How true!

Often you find that we put off the things of God just to accomplish a lesser purpose. We put off the call of God just to fulfill our own desires. We sometimes think that our pursuit is always more important than the call of God for our lives. But Jesus has demystified this and given us the right way to approach his call and assignment in our lives. So the question today is, what are you putting off, just because of a lesser pursuit? What assignment has God put in your hands that you are not willing to carry out because of a lesser pursuit? What call are you ignoring because you want to do what is in your heart first? Think about these things, because it will go a long way to help you fulfill God’s purpose in your life. Whatever it is you are putting off today to pursue a lesser purpose, should be revisited because when God gives an assignment, it is for your own good. Therefore, it is in your best interest that you put aside the lesser purposes of life and take up the higher purposes that God has destined for you. That is where the blessing lies, and guess what? When you fulfill the higher purposes of life, the lesser purposes become bread for you.

TODAY’S RHEMA

Full the higher purposes of life and the lesser ones will fall in place!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY

Thank you Heavenly Father for helping me know the importance of taking up the higher purposes of life, thank you for letting me know the benefit that goes with it, therefore I say to you, “Lord, here am I, use me Lord” in the name of Jesus. Amen!
