“Make it your aim to live a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to earn your own living, just as we told you before.” —1 Thessalonians 4:11 (GNT)
One of the trends I’ve noticed today is that many people feel the need to share everything about their lives on social media. When they visit a hospital, they post it online. When they sign a contract, they post it online. Even when expecting a baby, they share every detail online. Their entire lives are on display because they believe people should always know what’s happening. If you ask them why, they’ll say, “I need to update my fans.” But is this the kind of life God has called us to live? Certainly not.
When you study the Bible carefully, you’ll see that God wants you to live a quiet life. Our opening scripture says, “Make it your aim to live a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to earn your own living, just as we told you before.” (1 Thessalonians 4:11 GNT). Take note of the phrase, “make it your aim to live a quiet life.” Similarly, in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, the Bible says, “First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, requests, and thanksgivings be offered to God for all people; for kings and all others who are in authority, that we may live a quiet and peaceful life with all reverence toward God and with proper conduct.” (GNT).
From these scriptures, it’s clear that God desires for us to live quiet and peaceful lives. This should be your goal. There’s nothing wrong with sharing moments online, but not everything needs to be public. Keep your focus on living a quiet, dedicated life before God, and watch as your life moves from glory to glory. Hallelujah!
