Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. —Philippians 4:6 (NKJV)
Oftentimes, I hear people say things like, “I prayed and nothing happened,” or “I prayed and nothing changed, so I decided to stop praying.” The question is: when they prayed, was their prayer accompanied with thanksgiving?
Something I’ve noticed in the prayers of many people is that their prayers are often filled with demands, murmuring, and complaints. Genuine thanksgiving is missing, and because of that, their prayers go unanswered.
Beloved, it’s a mistake to think you can pray any way you want and still get results. It doesn’t work that way. Answers to prayer are secured by following the right protocols.
If you truly want answers from your prayers, you must follow the rules—and one of those rules is that your prayer must be accompanied with thanksgiving. That’s why Paul admonished in our opening text: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” —Philippians 4:6 (NKJV). Did you see that?
We are encouraged to put away anxiety and present our requests to God with thanksgiving. So, I urge you to become more mindful of this.
Before you start making requests or supplications, take time to be genuinely thankful to God for what He has already done. Your thanksgiving shows that you are grateful, and it lays a solid foundation upon which your other requests can stand.
So the next time you want to pray, remember this and do the right thing. Praise God!

Confession for the Day
Father, I am grateful for this wonderful insight today. I choose, therefore, to always accompany my prayer with thanksgiving, and as I do this, I enjoy the blessings of answered prayer, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
