“If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree falls to the south or the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie.” —Ecclesiastes 11:3 (NKJV)
The sound of rain is music to a farmer’s ears. They know a good season brings a bountiful harvest, and rain is the very definition of a good season. We all experience different seasons in our lives, and naturally, we want these seasons to be fruitful. The only way to ensure a good season is by filling our clouds with rain. When the clouds are full, we experience rainfall.
Spiritual disciplines like Bible study, prayer, and fasting are what fill our spiritual clouds with rain. Bible study gives you knowledge and understanding of God’s will and His ways. Prayer aligns your heart with that knowledge, while fasting brings you to a place of deeper sacrifice. When you engage in these activities, your clouds fill with rain, ready to pour out blessings over your life. Did you catch that?
This means anyone who wishes to enjoy an unending stream of blessings must first dedicate themselves to Bible study, fasting, and prayer. There is a level of commitment to these practices that will completely change the trajectory of your life, so you must be willing to put in the effort. If you ignore prayer, fasting, and the Word, you cannot blame anyone when your life lacks direction or fruitfulness.
Unfortunately, many people run the race of life with empty clouds, yet they still expect a continuous downpour of blessings. They want regular rain but are unwilling to do the work to fill their clouds. They forget the scripture that warns us: “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” —Galatians 6:7-8 (NKJV). If you want rain, you must be willing to fill your clouds by engaging consistently in Bible study, prayer, and fasting.
