I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the LORD.” —Psalm 122:1 (NKJV)
“I don’t think I will be coming to church today; I have somewhere to go or an appointment.” “I can’t keep coming to church all the time; I am a very busy person.” “I can only come to church once a week because I have so many other things to do.” You will hear God’s people make these excuses and many more when you ask them to come to church. They always have one excuse or another, and they see nothing wrong with it.
As far as they are concerned, church is simply a place to go when they do not have much else to do. What they fail to realize is that church ought to be their main priority in life. This is where you go to know more about the God you profess to believe in. It is where you learn about the Word of Life and how to walk in God’s ways.
I am not against being busy. I am also not against people enjoying a social life. However, when your social life takes the place of God and His righteousness, that is the beginning of failure. So, it is vital that you rekindle your appreciation for the house of the Lord.
King David is a man I deeply admire in Scripture because he was passionate about God and everything concerning Him. In one of his Psalms, he wrote, I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the LORD.” —Psalm 122:1 (NKJV). David was also the one who said to Nathan the prophet, “…See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.” —2 Samuel 7:2 (NKJV). You can clearly see how deeply he cared about the house of the Lord.
I encourage you today to cultivate that same deep care for the house of the Lord. Be willing to make sacrifices to always be present and actively involved in what is happening there. When you do this, it proves that you are not just a Christian in name, but someone who genuinely cares about God, His work, and His house. Praise God!

Make a conscious decision to love the house of the Lord just as you love your own house!

Father, I am grateful for this wonderful reminder. I choose to always make myself available in Your vineyard, and I will do all that needs to be done whenever I am in Your house, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
