Take a Stand with God and Serve Him Alone

Devotionals

Then the king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people took a stand for the covenant. —2 Kings 23:3 (NKJV)

The children of Israel faltered in their worship of God because they worshiped the Lord and still followed after other gods. God tried several times to make them stay away from the evil they did, but they didn’t turn back. They couldn’t hold on to God alone; they had a hunger for other gods, and they served them. They were also encouraged by other kings, and they went in the direction God didn’t want them to go.

But King Josiah was different. He ensured that his heart and soul were for God and no one else. He also ensured that true worship of God was restored in Judah and Jerusalem.

You cannot be a Christian and be found in places where the names of other gods are called upon. You must take a stand with God in covenant to serve and worship Him alone.

As a Christian, you must understand that God cannot be mocked, and it would be a mockery to think that God wants to share you with other gods. You cannot want to serve the Lord and serve something else; you are expected to make a choice about who you will follow.

And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. —Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)

Joshua took a stand, and I hope that you can also take that stand today. If you do so, you will begin to see God’s grace upon your life.

Today’s Rhema

Serve the Lord with all your heart and worship none other!

Prayer

Glorious Heavenly Father, I declare that You alone are God, and I will worship no other but You. I declare that my heart and soul are Yours, and I take my stand with You today by the power of the Holy Ghost. Amen!
