In my years of pastoring, I have seen a common trend among many believers: once they become comfortable, they stop praying. They often feel there is nothing left to pray about. Then, the moment they face new challenges, they rush back to the place of prayer looking for quick answers.
Beloved, you cannot pray like this and expect to build a strong prayer life. You cannot be inconsistent in prayer and expect things to always go well. Prayer was never meant to be seasonal. Instead, it is an act of worship, a time of fellowship, and, most importantly, a lifestyle. When you pray often, you save yourself from many troubles, and one of the biggest is temptation.
You must understand that the devil will never stop bringing temptations your way. However, a strong prayer life will keep you from falling into them. If you think you are comfortable and no longer need to pray, you are mistaken. Without prayer, you will soon fall into temptation, and that season of comfort will quickly be cut short.
To avoid this, you must make a conscious decision to pray continually. In our opening text, Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane when He asked His disciples, “…Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you will not fall into temptation.” —Luke 22:46 (GNT). Sadly, they could not pray because they were exhausted. When the hour of darkness came, Peter fell into temptation, and the others were nowhere to be found.
Beloved, if you want to avoid falling into temptation, you must make a firm decision to strengthen your prayer life. Stop putting it off for another time. Instead, create a schedule that helps you pray consistently throughout the day. When you build up your prayer life, you will always stay ten steps ahead of the devil. Start taking your prayer life seriously today so that you do not fall into temptation.
