“…one thing you lack; go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross and follow Me” But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowfully, for he had great possessions…” —Mark 10:21-22 (NKJV)

The Bible in the book of Mark 10:17-22 told us an interesting story of a rich young man who approached Jesus one day and said “good teacher, what shall I do so that I may inherit eternal life?” Mark 10:17 And Jesus said to Him” you know the commandments; do not commit adultery; do not murder,’ do not steal,’ do not bear false witness,’ do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother.’” And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.” Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “…one thing you lack; go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasures in heaven; and come, take up the cross and follow Me” But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowfully, for he had great possessions…” Mark 10:18-22 (NKJV). The young man wanted eternal life so badly but he was not ready to give up his possessions to walk in that path. He wanted this crown, but he was not willing to make sacrifices, which is the case for so many of God’s people today. They want victory on all sides, but they are unwilling to make sacrifices that will lead them to the victory they desire. In my walk so far with God, I discovered that if you are going to achieve certain things in life and live a victorious life, you must be willing to let go of something or go through something just to get what you want.

You have to understand that every achievement comes with a price. When you see a very brilliant student in school, you are seeing someone who is spending time reading. When you see a man, who is full of the Holy Ghost and making giant strides in the things of the kingdom, you will see a man who spends time praying and fasting on a regular basis to maintain his relationship with God. Most of the successful people you see in the world today are all people of sacrifices. They wake up early to try to achieve certain goals before time, they are very committed to goals and targets and they are not found wasting their time on things that won’t benefit them. These guys are people of sacrifices, they are willing to let go of what seems to give them temporary gratification and go for the things that will give them a lasting value and this is how it goes. Even God had to let go of His son Jesus Christ, to be able to reconcile men back to Himself. So, the question is, what sacrifices are you willing to make, to move to the next level in your life? Every next level requires you to leave the present level. If you are not willing to give up the present level, then you are not ready for the next level. So, make a conscious decision today to be a man or woman of sacrifices. You must be willing to make sacrifices, it could be the kind of friends you keep, or the kind of places you go, or the kind of food you eat or the kind of movie you watch or the kind of books you read or even the kind of things you believe. Whatever it is that you know is a speed breaker in your life, do something about it to qualify for the next level. That is where all-round victory lies. God bless you
